Reporting that a great Thanksgiving dinner was produced here in Kabul thanks to the chefs at the guest house with a bit of help from me. Turkeys and real turkey gravy, 3 kinds of cranberries, and all the trimmings including pumpkin, walnut and apple pies along with persimmon pudding. Local touches included pomegranates featured as glaze for roasted pumpkin, mixed in with the raw cranberry relish and in a vinaigrette for the salad. Chafing dishes, bouquets of local roses and Kabul cosmos added to the festive atmosphere. First gg party in Kabul a big success! A day of friends and celebration along with profound gratitude for so many things, including the presence of great friends Suzie LeBlanc, Robert Dressen, and Micihele Breton,
Fantastic! I remember one Thanksgiving with you in Brussels... A long long time ago. There was a giant frozen turkey involved. Too exotic in Brussels at that time of year. You made 2 different cranberry sauces (one cooked...and one fresh with oranges), there was also 2 pumpkin dishes, one with caramelized wedges and the other one was a gratin...with sweetcorn maybe? And probably a million other things...still have vivid memories of that meal. At least 25 years later!
